The dictionary elucidates the word SCIENCE as the systematic study of structure and behaviour of physical and natural world through observation and experiment.RELIGION means belief in and worship of God. Although these words have dissimilarity in spelling, there is a very strong relationship between the two.
As many narrow rivers from vatious sources unite to form the mighty ocean, so does every religion practised by diffferent walks of people emulate a mighty idea - to reach God 's feet.It is a part of our day to say life. Likewise, science is a part and parcel of religion.
William Wordsworth poetically expressed,
"to her fair works did nature link,
the human soul that through me ran ;
and much it grieved my heart to think
what man has made of man"
In this modern world where there is a race for money, man has realized the need for peace of mind. The best way he has chosen is the path of spirituality. Apropos the above, the poet tells that the more one is nearer to nature, the faster he reaches God's feet which is the main aim of any religion; but the poet grieves over the fact that man has not given any help to nature. Concrete jungles have mushroomed and are spreading throughout the country. So what has man made of man.
Religion is a way of life. Its impact is seen in man's everyday activities; but science also has a reason to intervene. It is science which proves religious acts in a very practical and factual manner. Reciting SLOKAS after getting up from the bed is an age-old practice. Scientific explanation for this act is that the heart relaxes when man relaxes. Chanting of a sloka makes room for sometime for one to sit after getting up from the bed. In this process of getting up, the heart has to pump more bloodto both the brain and legs which is very strenuous. Sitting for sometime regularises the heart beat. Similarly chanting slokas before prayer is offering food to God. Science says that by reciting these slokas, the mind gets the thought of 'food' which leads to activation of all digestive enzymes and ultimately proper digestion of food. The list goes on and on as science and religion have a lot of simililarities.
One can observe from the above that it is the same goal that science and religion reach, but the roots are different. Many people of the present day questin religious activities where science gibes a helping hand with enough facts and practical ideas. These indeed satisfy man who is diverted to the right path.
Right from ancient times, man has been giving his ideas on science and religion. It is he who has exploited these two areas to the maximum for his intellectual and physical comforts. Thus, it is in the hands of man to maintain a steady balance between the two and work towards the development of the world rather thatn his own self by having a check on his avarice.
